Restaurant - Ordering a meal at a restaurant

You will learn simple Japanese for ordering a meal and drink at a restaurant.

Model Dialogue

Sumisu: Sumimasen. Menyû, onegaishimasu.
Ueitoresu : Hai. Dôzo.
Sumisu: Dômo. Êto, kôhî to miruku tî, sorekara mikkusu sando futatsu onegaishimasu.
Ueitoresu : Hai.
Sumisu: Sumimasen. Okanjô. Betsubetsu ni onegaishimasu.


スミス :すみません。メニュー、おねがいします。
ウエイトレス:はい。どうぞ。
スミス :どうも。ええと、コーヒーと ミルクティー、それから ミックスサンド ふたつ おねがいします。
ウエイトレス:はい。
スミス :すみません。おかんじょう。べつべつに おねがいします。

English Translation

Smith: Excuse me. Menu, please.
Waitress: Yes. Here you are.
Smith: Thanks. Let’s see.... coffee and milk tea, and two mixed sandwiches, please.
Waitress: All right.
Smith: Excuse me. Bill, please. Make it separate.

Vocabulary

1) menyû : menu
2) Dômo. : Thanks.
3) miruku tî : milk tea
4) sorekara : and also
5) mikkusu sando : mixed sandwich
6) futatsu : two
7) okanjô : bill
8) betsubetsu ni : separately


2. Grammar and Structure

How to order your meal and drink at a restaurant/ cafe

[Your order] + <onegaishimasu> .
: [Your order], please.

* Examples;
1) Menyû, onegaishimasu.
2) Dorinku menyû, onegaishimasu.
3) Eigo no menyû, onegaishimasu.

4) Kôhî, onegaishimasu.
5) Kôra, onegaishimasu.
6) Miruku tî, onegaishimasu.
7) Mizu, onegaishimasu. * mizu: water

8) Mikkusu sando, onegaishimasu.
9) Kôhî to mikkusu sando, onegaishimasu.


[A] to [B] :[A] and [B]

“to” combines nouns as in "kôhî to miruku tî"(coffee and milk tea).
[Noun 1] + <to > + [Noun 2]
: [Noun 1] and [Noun 2]

* Examples;
1) Kôhî to mikkusu sando, onegaishimasu.
2) Kôhî to piza, onegaishimasu.
3) Kôra to chîzu hanbâgâ, onegaishimasu. * chîzu hanbâgâ: cheese burger


Note: The numeral is usually put between the noun and the verb as in;
Mikkusu sando futatsu onegaishimasu.

Order your favorites at a restaurant in Japanese. Use the menu below to find out what you would like to order.


Example:
1) Sumimasen, <A>, onegaishimasu.

8) kôhî: coffee
9) kafeore: café au lait
10) mizu: water
11) bîru: beer
12) okanjô: bill


Replace the words and order the following items.
